I was waiting for your thoughts on Milne. I watched a couple of BYU games last year - mostly to see the hype on Wilson - and it says something that Wilson trusted Milne enough to target him frequently and Milne made some really good catches, some even making his QB look good. He’s reliable so I can see him beating out Sims, Harmon and Wright.
Those 3 all offer different things to Milne, which would bring a greater variety to the receiver group, but Milne could develop into a reliable back up option down the line
He will, get some kind of fake injury be hidden on injured reserve and then elevated to practice squad without too many teams seeing what he has to offer. I think Harmon brings too much talent for them to cut him and Milne learning under Humphries is ideal.
Yeah, I could see them getting him on the practice squad. Every year it seems we worry about Washington losing a receiver trying to get them to the practice squad and rarely does it actually happen. I think they could take the risk and try and get him on the practice squad and develop him for the future that way.
actually the guy he really reminds me of is Brad Edelman.. Brad came in as a former Qb and replaced Wes Welker for the Pats..It took him a while to become an integral part of the offense but as we all know he became Brady's go to guy later in his career.. He was always open in the short to medium range.. He wont dominate early in his career, but if they can find a way to stash and develop him he could really flourish
I think his best chance of “making the team” is via the practice squad. As you said, if they can stash and develop him for a year or maybe two, he has a chance to be a contributor down the line.
Milne also returned punts and kicks for BYU, particularly in 2019. Curious if you looked at any of his returns or special teams value? I think becoming a returner is the only way he makes the team.
He did return punts, but not often. He had 5 returns in 2019 for 57 yards, but 7 returns for just 3 yards in 2020. That’s not to say he can’t do it and maybe his hands are more reliable on punt returns than Steven Sims, but he certainly doesn’t offer anywhere near the same level of explosiveness and threat after the catch.
