Fantastic as always, Mark. Curious as to how you assess his speed. Are you going more based on his 40 time, game speed or both? I just wonder if he’s a case where a player is faster on field than on formal timing. Also, in comparison to Terry when he was coming out, can you highlight some of the differences outside of special teams experience? I’m super excited for him after hearing on Sheehan’s pod that a number of Washington scouts were hopeful to land him. Thank you!

I’d say both. It’s not that he’s slow, clearly he’s not. Ron Rivera has mentioned a few times already they love his speed. He doesn’t have that 4.3 speed that McLaurin had coming out, so he’s not quite in the elite speed category. He does play a little faster than his timed speed, but he doesn’t play like he’s a 4.3 guy, which is absolutely fine, not many guys are.

He’s not too dissimilar to McLaurin coming out in that he’s someone that focuses on the small details with route running. He’s probably a little more physical as a run blocker and a has a few more inconsistencies with drops. And as I said, he doesn’t have that elite level speed that McLaurin has that gives him that extra gear to go to when he needs it. But certainly, I can see why people compare them.

Do you think Chris Godwin works as a comparable? Similar measurables coming out of college

I’m not typically one for comps, Brown is his own guy. I think Godwin is probably a little more well-rounded, plays both inside and outside and ran a more diverse set of routes. He’s perhaps got a little more suddenness to him too.

So do you think it's a situation where Samuel plays the Z in two receiver sets, and then moves to the slot with Brown outside in three receiver sets? Or do you think Humphries probably plays the majority of the slot snaps?

I think you’re right in that Samuel will play the Z in two receiver sets. I think they’ll go into camp with him staying as the Z and having Humphries as the starting slot receiver early on. But if Brown earns his opportunity in camp, I could definitely see them kicking Samuel into the slot, where I think he’s best anyway, and Brown playing the Z
