Do you think he could play the SAM/strong outside LB in a 4-3? Athletic traits seem to indicate he could.

Yeah, it seems like that’s what they might try with him. As I wrote at the end of the piece, Del Rio said they were going to cross train him at linebacker as well as defensive end. Could see him in a similar role to Brian Orakpo when he first started, as a Sam linebacker that switches to end on passing downs.

Reminds me a little bit of Josh Uche (not as good as Uche). I like the idea of playing him at SAM. Should be comfortable with the run fits and battling TEs on early/running downs. I would think dropping into the curl/flat zone shouldn’t be an issue athletically. Once he gets comfortable and recognizes what the offense is trying to do he could pan out down the road.

Yeah, I think the pass rush potential is there to be developed, but the issue will be getting him on the field outside of just as a situational rusher. Obviously the ideal is as you suggested, learning the details of playing the run and dropping into coverage from the linebacker spot, which enables him to be on the field more often.
