This is pretty much as I saw it though I do not think we carry 3 QB's. Allen is not ready to contribute and should be put on the IR after being cut and re-signed. We need a new direction at QB, even if its 3rd or 4th string too. Lastly, I am not a fan of what Barber brings to the mix and would not add him as well. His skill set can be replaced with the talent on roster.

Conversely, Wes martin has greatly improved this off-Season and would be our current best bet sitting behind Flowers, who has gone through the motions in the Off-Season. I keep 10 OL in no small part due to the probable exit of Schreff in 2022.

In closing I see us finding another LB that can start in the League, such as Jordan Hicks from AZ or Mack Wilson from the Browns. Our depth at LB is awful.

I don’t see Allen as a long term answer at QB, but I think he’s a lock to make this team because of the injuries its had at QB in recent years. Allen is of course one of those injuries, but with Heinicke as the primary back up, they need to have a 3rd QB on the roster. Heinicke has yet to complete a full game in the NFL without getting hurt. This staff traded for Allen and then re-signed him when they didn’t have to do either. They clearly like him. Again, don’t think he’s the long term answer, but a solid option as the 3rd QB. I think QB of the future isn’t on the roster, but won’t be until next year.

In general, I’d agree on Barber. I feel Gibson can add that role to his expanding list of roles. But the staff clearly like Barber and have always gone out of their way to praise him and what he brings. I’d probably just roll with Gibson, McKissic and Patterson personally, but I just think the staff has shown enough commitment to Barber that I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make the team.

Wes Martin has improved, but Schweitzer is the better guard option right now. Schweitzer is a borderline starter in my eyes and Washington could probably justify him over Flowers if they went in that direction. But Martin has certainly played better this offseason than he did last year. Probably helps that he was against second/third string defenses this year, instead of being with the starters last year. I think Martin is a prime practice squad candidate.

Agree they need to find another LB from somewhere.

This is also the time of year to find a QB on the cheap, albeit a 3rd string QB. Same for a LB. This Front Office is loath to trade its Draft capital as its first option, but if you are looking to add experienced Players that can contribute to the back of the roster, now is the time you get your best deals using conditional Draft picks.

I am less concerned with "interpreting" what the Staff likes and why or who they decide to play during the Pre-Season. I just look at the Player and ask myself if he can contribute or not. Montez and Allen as they sit today are not in the plus column in that regard. Wes Martin is.

By and large we seem to agree, but having Players stay on roster based on some past assumptions is the way to get yourself in trouble. We need some immediate upgrades at QB and LB and need to start that process now when its cost effective and we have the Cap space to do so.

I disagree on immediate upgrades at QB. QB is a spot where you need time to learn the offense to be effective. Now, if they could trade for Aaron Rodgers, sure, go do it and that will sort itself out. But for a back up, unless someone cuts a guy you really like and think could develop into something in the long term, I don’t see any point in cutting Allen. Yes, he’s done basically nothing this preseason because he’s coming off an injury or two, but he did start the majority of the 2019 season for the Panthers under both Rivera and Turner. Was he great? No. But he knows the system and could steady the ship in a pinch if need be. In a year with covid being a risk as well as injuries. Having a 3rd QB with lots of experience in this system is valuable.

Ron just stated in his Press Conference that they are considering going with two QB's, so I think you may be overstating the risk associated with trying to upgrade the 3rd string QB on this team. Especially so if that QB is unable to perform as he has in the past as Allen is showing us today.

I recognize the risks of COVID and the QB position and its probable that nothing changes with the 3rd-4th string QB's on this roster for that reason alone. But make no mistake, they are not here today based upon their performances either.

This is solid although I do think the WFT will only carry 3 RBs. That will leave Barber as the odd man out. Leaving the possibility open to keep Carter as the punt returner.

I still think this staff has a lot of trust in Barber. I’d probably move on from him personally, but I’d be surprised if this staff does. If they do cut him, it would probably be for Reyes. I don’t think they’d keep an 8th receiver. I think it’s Carter or Milne, not both.

I’m not surprised that both Carter and Milne was kept … what was surprising is that Robert’s made it over Moreland. If Gandy clears waivers he will be back as a practice squad candidate. Moreland will not clear waivers.

Might WFC go back to any of their linebackers from 2020 if they get cut - eg Clemons, Hamilton, Pierre - or are they gone for other reasons? Also, why did they cut Thaddeus Moss? Since he never got on the field, was is training habits or something like that?

I think if they liked any of those LBs, they would still be in Washington. The LB depth here has been poor for a while, so it’s not like the team could afford to cut a player they thought could help them. I think they only moved on from those guys because they didn’t see them helping.

I don’t know why they moved on from Moss. I liked him coming out of college as a hybrid TE/H-Back. I guess they didn’t feel like he was good enough as a pure TE or perhaps there were behind the scenes stuff with him too. I don’t have any inside information on that situation.

I think initially Forrest makes it in Barbers spot. Then IR Forrest, with his hamstring, and bring Barber back. Neither Reyes nor RSJ really excite me, so I'd keep the upside of Reyes. If one of the top 2 TE's get banged up, then decide if Reyes is worth the spot. I think AGG, Barber, Reaves, 6th LB, and 4th DE will bounce on and off the roster all year

Yeah, I could see them potentially being strategic with it, keeping guys like Reyes and Forrest initially before IRing them in a few days, leaving replaceable vets like RSJ and Barber off the final roster for now know they can probably sign them back in a few days. But I don’t think either Forrest or Reyes contributes much this year.

Could certainly see that last sentence being true too.

I’m hoping you are right about Milne. When I thought we’d be in the race for a very low draft slot I started to watch some of the BYU games, primarily to see what all the fuss was about with Zach Wilson in case he fell to us. One thing that was clear was that Milne was his favourite target. He made some exceptional catches during the season and I can see him being very reliable for us in the long term.
