If Fromm was the 1st one off, who was the last one on. I'd imagine a DL or OL

For me, the debate was Fromm, Armah and the extra DL for the last 2 spots. I think all the vet DEs offer something different that gives them a bunch of different roles and flexibility for however they wanna go each week. But all are out of contract next year, so they need to keep both rookies to ensure they have future depth at the position on the roster. If I had to cut one to keep Fromm, it would have been James Smith-Williams, but I would take him over Fromm as I think Fromm makes it to the practice squad while JSM probably gets signed elsewhere.

I kept Armah over Fromm because I think there is a role, albeit quite a limited one, for a fullback in this offense. Allows them to open up the playbook and play with a bunch of different personnel groups if they want to and also enables them to go with a jumbo package in short yardage and goal line situations. He can also act as a fourth TE and a pass protection back if needed. So felt that was a more valuable role than the 3rd string QB that again, I think most likely makes it to the practice squad.

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.

I really like Armah and hope he makes it. If he does he won’t be on the field for just 4 or 5 plays a game. He is a fine STs player and can be used at the TE or Hback position because he played TE in college. So he has the potential to be used a lot of ways

I think there’s games and situations where he could see plenty of snaps, but there will also be games where they don’t need a FB or 4th TE too. Don't forget for him to be on the field, they have to take off someone else, either 1 of their 3 stud receivers or a TE. Again, there will be situations where that matters, but most of the time they’re gonna want McLaurin, Samuel and Dotson on the field.

With the new "emergency QB rule" this year, I'd like to see them keep Fromm on the 53.

To my eye, Milne is a Moneyball-type punt returner, in that he safely fields punt and gets forward for 5-7 yds.

The hidden difference was that he foes it so often and ended up with over 300yds in returns iirc.

We may not get the home run return from him, but he steadily earns us back yardage throughout the season.

I think Milne is entirely replaceable as a return man, but it feels like the team made the WR6 spot a competition between returners and Allen proved he’s not reliable enough yet to be trusted, so Milne wins by default. Milne also offers a lot more as a receiver right now simply because he catches the ball far more reliably than Allen does.

I think if a good punt returner gets cut in the next few days, I could see them making a claim.
