Really thought Sadiq looked very strong at the point of attack… I would love to see him with the 1s at LT

I don’t think he is ready to start yet, not at left tackle at least.

Man .. maybe I’m delusional but this game I thought he held up very well and looked a lot more athletic than say Leno

I don’t think delusional is right. Charles may well have surrendered less pressure than Leno, and probably is more athletic. But Leno was facing the starting unit and Charles was facing back ups. Leno is an experience tackle that understands how to mix up techniques and be relatively reliable. I’m planning to take a look at his play this week, but I suspect he’ll be significantly better in the season because he’ll spend far more time studying the play and techniques of the rushers he’ll face. In preseason, they don’t really do that.

Thank you! This is why I read your work to learn. I hope I didn’t come off as a know it all

Lol you're joking right? Charles was one of the worst in the Bengals game. Didn't look good as the extra blocker in with the 1st team, and was atrocious at RT with the 2nd team in both pass pro and run blocking. Looked a little more comfortable at LT with 3rd team, but still wasn't great.

McTyer looked really good, I loved his attitude. I felt last night in looking at the QB contrast that Fitz is so hard to read and appears so disengaged that when a player like Heineke or Tua comes in they want it so bad and wear their emotions on their sleeve and so it gives the fans and the team a spark that Fitz doesn’t have. I know when they see Fitztragic people wonder what the heck was he thinking? No one really knows and so that frustrates them and they yank him for someone with more obvious passion. Flacco had the same problem.

I’lol be interesting is seeing the QBs on the All-22. My gut feeling is Fitz missed some throws that he would typically make (connection with Humphries looked off. Twice Humphries sat down when Fitz expected him to continue running. Then the last throw he had was a rocket over Humphries head when it should have been a TD).

But I think Fitz was making good decisions from the pocket, whereas I think Heinicke was a little too fast to try and escape the pocket and make plays with his legs. Once or twice I felt like he went too early when he had a throw available. But I’ll need to check the All-22 footage to confirm that.

Love to hear your thoughts on Leno. I'm concerned.

I’ve added him to the list of guys to watch this week!

I am as well. He got his butt kicked by Judon last week before Judon went out with the injury. He also looks really slow getting out in front of the pull when they pull the LT & LG and run right. With our backs, that will be a problem.

Lucas should be starting, either at LT or RT. Ron underestimated him and Schweitzer last year, and looks like he's going to repeat the same mistake again this year, as neither appear to be on 1st team.

Maybe not for preseason, because you'll have your hands full watching prospects and roster battles, but that counter play reminds me of the Good Old Days; a deep look at the WTF's running game could be a really interesting thing to see.

Yeah, it’s been interesting to see the run game. I thought they did really well with the zone scheme down the stretch last year, but while we’ve seen zone this preseason, with Flowers at left guard, we’ve also seen a fair few gap scheme runs too.

In a world with lots of WRs and nickel and/or lighter LBs, there exist opportunities to build a gap scheme with TEs and "fullbacks". Maybe not traditional fullbacks, since they're extinct, but having one of the RBs block. Making a running path against a 6-man box seems like a great opportunity.

Big Flowers is bigger and stronger than ALL the other OLineman, watch the tape in pass protection Flowers usually has his man stoned at the LOS while everyone else is3-4 yards in the backfield. He's also more powerful in the running game than Schweitzer.

Patrick Bell

On one of Patterson's runs, to the right for about 15 or so yards, #83 through a tremendous block on the right side edge rusher of Cincinnati. It didn't have much to do with the play, but the block was beautiful.
