Well at this point, the Rams are keeping Stafford and Jackson, maybe they end up keeping Kupp too?? If they end up cutting him, I think there will be plenty of teams that will see him as a higher priority than Washington will now. Lots of McVay/Shanahan tree teams (Jags with Coen stands out, which could make Kirk available) would value Kupp. It is a shame, I like what Kupp would have offered, but they do have a similar option in Ertz. Deebo does give them something different that can cover a lot of players in one, which gives them a ton of flexibility in the no-huddle, up-tempo stuff.
Just finished watching your talk with George. Well done! I always enjoy hearing you explain the clips on screen. I think you have a future in it!!😜
One of my first concerns was that it’s a bit disappointing to think that this precludes the B&G from going after Coop - or even Christian Kirk (who my Jags season ticket-holder friend loves 🩷🩷🩷 and would hate to see go!). But then you made it obvious that Deebo is a different kind of pass catcher than those two, and that the Comms might still be well served by going after a more traditional WR, but at a lower price point than Kupp or Kirk.
It’s notable to me that while you started the talk out by saying that (like me) acquiring Deebo was not a high priority for you, you did a pretty great job of selling him as a guy who can really upgrade the Comms in a few ways. Even I - a Deebo skeptic - am getting pretty excited about what he might bring to the table!
I only hope that Deebo’s healthy, in shape, and highly motivated. That combination will go a hell of a long way towards making this an outstanding pickup.
Thank you for the kind words. I do enjoy doing those shows. I feel like I can show a little bit more of what I mean with each play while talking it through and pausing the play to highlight things. I’d love to do those more, but they do take some time to set up.
I think it does probably take them out of the Kupp sweepstakes. I don’t think they’re out on Kirk necessarily (if the Jags even let him go). He would still make sense with vertical speed and some more quickness in the slot. I do wonder if this move makes someone like Hollywood Brown (another WR with a history with Kingsbury), more of an option as a speed threat on the outside opposite McLaurin.
I think my questions about Deebo is how quickly things might drop off for him. That physical play style can drop off a cliff drastically as the body ages. It’s hard to maintain it for so long. But Deebo is a rare player so perhaps he can stay healthy and motivated on his 1-year deal to bounce back or at least hold firm. But if you get the Deebo from 2024, he’s a very very good fit for a lot of what Kingsbury likes to do.
Listened luve. Great show. I think i am a little bit more positive, but truly hating what appears to be losing out on Kupp
