Defer to you on Mayo, but if Bobbie Wagner is available that is who needs to be targeted . He would be the second coming of London Fletcher and would tie the defense together.. Otherwise a real MLB is a huge need in the draft

I think Wagner is under contract for 2022, so not sure why the Seahawks would make him available. He was fun to watch vs Washington earlier this year though

i saw a quote from Wagner earlier this year, after our game with Seattle where he said he did not expect to return to Seattle next year..I assumed by that he was a free agent.. Maybe it means he doesnt expect Seattle to keep him based upon salary? Dont know why they wouldnt want to re do his contract?.. He would be perfect for us; and for a lot of teams

I saw that as well.

I don’t recall seeing that, but if that’s the case, he’d be a very interesting option. I know Seahawks fans said he’s over the hill and struggled a lot of the year. I certainly didn’t see that against Washington, where he looked great, but I haven’t watched any other Seahawks games this year to know how consistent he’s been.

During Carrol’s time in Seattle they have been aggressive in pruning defensive players. From Kam C to Richard Sherman to KJ Wright a lot of key defensive players ended their careers with other teams. One of them broke his ankle and flipped off Carroll and the bench while exiting the stadium. You don’t grow old gracefully and remain a Seahawk. I have no inside info but I would lay odds Wagner will be with another team next year

With us being in nickel so often what are our realistic options. We will play with 2 true LBs 70% of the time roughly. Do you think Ron will actually move Jamin out of of the middle? Then what he either plays 5-15 snaps or beats out Holcomb? No way we can draft say Devon Lloyd and use another top 20 pick on a LB

It sounded like Rivera thinks he needs to move outside, at least that was the impression I got when he was asked about it the other day. I think that can work fine with Holcomb/Davis as the Sam/Will and adding a true Mike LB in between them. I know teams play a lot more nickel packages than base now, but with Holcomb and Davis’ athletic profile combined with Washington’s heavy reliance on zone coverage since the bye week and they could stay in base while playing quarters or cover-3 behind a 4 man rush or a 3-deep, 3-under fire zone with a 5 man rush. That’s what they’ve been doing since the bye and in that regard, Davis at the Will would kinda replicate what Collins was doing.

If Davis doesn’t step up or neither he or Holcomb can run the defense in nickel, then Davis would have to move to the bench and rightly so. He needs to play better to earn more time. I think he’s capable of doing that, but we’ll see.

I don’t deny the need for a MLB just wonder what our realistic options would be. Feel like will end getting another bostic type, middling backer that won’t demand a ton of money/ expectation to be a 60% plus snap player. One thing I’d love to hear from you is what if we for a multitude of reasons end up not goin QB round 1 and if we stay top 10, best player available/ need could be say Andrew booth or stingley. Now I realize fuller has clearly played much better on the outside vs inside but if we got another legit outside CB we could really diversify our coverages. Why did fuller struggle so much inside, could we do something to help him if we have Jackson/ booth Jr who excel in man/ bump n run. Ps I hope some how Kyle Hamilton falls to us

Well, I’ve not watched any draft prospects yet, so I can’t really comment on specific guys. But I don’t think they’d prioritise corner in the 1st round. Rivera/Hurney have a history of drafting corners in mid-to-late rounds and developing them, then letting them walk before paying them (Josh Norman, James Bradberry come to mind).

They’ve never really invested a huge amount in the secondary, though the one counter to that is since coming to Washington, Rivera has at least approved if not targeted two relatively big CB contracts in Fuller and Jackson. Jackson isn’t really curable and while Fuller is, they don’t really have a reason to move on from him. If they continue to play the high percentage of zone coverage that they have since the bye week, then there’s really no need for them to invest in a corner in the 1st round.

Now if they do eventually want to transition to man coverage, then perhaps they could cut Fuller/transition him to safety and draft a guy, sure. But they’d also need to find a reliable slot corner that can play man. Fuller really struggled playing man inside. He worked well as a slot corner previously when Washington played a lot of zone and pattern-matching, where he could play off and with vision, using his intelligence to read and anticipate routes. Washington tried to play man earlier this year and he struggled to press and didn’t handle the two-way go in the slot very well.

I said a while ago that they should look at Mayo if Davis were underperforming. That the "sunk cost fallacy" types were missing the picture. Winning games is the most critical thing. Not player development. And not justifying old picks.

This doesn't mean "giving up" on Jamin. Just that he has to earn his reps. And you earn by practice/performance. Not by draft status. And if he never earns them, tough luck. We waste way too much time with this stuff. At least now, everyone seems to realize he's a 3-4th round pick.

And if he comes back and changes that, and is the guy who's better than Micah, good for him. But he has to be the one to do it. For all I know, we will get some late round or even UDFA in who outperforms next year and Davis will be in the rear view mirror.

And that's how it should work in the NFL. These coaches get a huge amount of time with the players. They can tell when a star should be benched for a scrub. And they should be aggressive in doing it.

In addition to being the wrong thing tactically, it's also the wrong thing in terms of team morale to gift game reps to players because of draft status or $$ or the like. Rest of the team is all about having the best guy out there, especially regardless of halo effect.

[I was right about Gibson continuing fumbles too. Could see a few games ago that he carried the ball loose. Even after a few series benching, he came back in and held the ball loose between the tackles. Then next game or two, more fumbles. You can see the issue even when he doesn't fumble. Watch how he holds the ball in traffic. Opposing coaches are, rightfully, telling their players that there is an opportunity to go after the ball with Gibson when they scout us.]

We'll get a clearer idea on Davis and his future after the smoke clears on this off season.

I get the feeling that one or two of our DL could get moved and along with Collins either being restructured or cut, there's opportunities for Davis to compete for the Buffalo Nickel spot and the Edge spot when we go with a 5 man defensive front.

I think MLB os our main priority on this side of the ball and has been for two seasons now (much like QB), if we don't take steps to solve it then then fingers will be clearly pointing at Coach Rivera.
