Yeah, feels like the most optimism I’ve seen around this team in a long time. That’s probably down to the sale more than anything, but certainly gonna be interesting to see how the offense does.
One thing I noticed in the last two clips is the work of the running back, especially when Wylie looks like he might get beat. In the first one, 99 slows his inside move as Robinson comes past, as if he's thinking Robinson might be aiming to block him. In the last clip, Gibson not only has to work around the defensive end, he actually chips him on the shoulder as he goes to the flat. (Not to mention the first clip on today's post where Robinson takes on a blitzing linebacker). Love the way Bieniemy involves backs in the blocking scheme. Commanders haven't had a great blocking back since Portis.
Bieniemy is all about the details and running backs being part of the protection schemes are hugely important details. Being able to step up and make a block on a blitzing linebacker, or even just chipping an edge rusher can make a huge difference in the success of the play. If the back isn't ready/able to do that, then he won't be on the field regardless of how good a pass catcher he might be.
I'd argue Washington has had a few decent ones since Portis. Chris Thompson was much smaller in stature and took a while to develop into it, but by the time he was with Jay Gruden, he was an excellent protection back as well as huge receiving threat out of the backfield.
More great work, Mark! Man! I'm so tired up to see how all this works.

I think that first sentence in your reply sums the situation up for all ‘skins exactly. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel...
