QB Review: Evaluating Taylor Heinicke’s performance against the Giants
Breaking down the film from Taylor Heinicke’s performance against the Giants
The incredible story of Taylor Heinicke continued on Thursday night. The journey of the undrafted quarterback that was out of the league this time last year has been well documented by now, but he wrote another chapter of this compelling story against the New York Giants. Heinicke led Washington to a 30-29 victory over the Giants, completing 34 of his 46 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Despite not having much experience starting in the NFL, he is extremely experienced in this system. He was with Norv and Scott Turner in Minnesota for his first few years in the NFL and then reunited with the Turner’s in Carolina a few years later. He was signed last year by Washington as an emergency option primarily because he knew the system. That knowledge of the system is clear to see, as Heinicke clearly understands how Scott Turner wants him to read plays and where to go with the ball.
