Initial thoughts: Washington lose season opener
Some initial thoughts, reactions and clips from Washington’s season opening loss to the Chargers.
The Washington Football Team lost its opening game of the season 20-16 to the L.A. Chargers. There will be a lot to break down between now and when Washington takes the field again on Thursday night against the Giants, but here are some of my initial thoughts and reactions to the loss.
3rd down struggles
Washington’s defense struggled mightily on third down. The Chargers were seemingly able to convert regardless of what Washington threw at them, with 14 of 19 third down attempts successfully converted. To give some perspective, that tied a team high for most conversions allowed in a single game in Washington’s history.
Now, in fairness to Washington, the Chargers do deserve some credit in this regard. There were some well designed and disguised plays within those 14 conversions.
