Day 2 options for the Washington Commanders
Taking a quick look at some of the best players still available heading into day 2 of the draft
The Washington Commanders selected Mississippi State cornerback Emmanual Forbes with the 16th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. Before the draft, I wrote a draft profile on Forbes, breaking down some of his traits, which you can read here. I will be updating this with a more detailed look at his strengths and weaknesses, as well as how he fits within the Commanders’ defense later on today, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.
In the meantime, I thought I’d look ahead to day two of the draft where the Commanders have a pick in both the second (47th overall) and third (97th overall) round on Friday night. No doubt some of you will be disappointed that Washington didn’t draft an offensive lineman at 16, but with the top offensive tackles gone, the Commanders would have had to settle for reaching from the next tier. However, there is still plenty of offensive line talent available for Washington to draft tonight. Here’s a brief look at some of the players to keep an eye out for.
Ohio State Offensive Tackle Dawand Jones
I actually wrote a draft profile on Jones earlier this week, but he’s the stand out tackle left in the draft. The monstrous 6-foot-8, 375 pound tackle could potentially start at right tackle from day one and the Commanders are reportedly high on him, having met with him multiple times throughout the pre-draft process. Given he’s the top tackle prospect available and there’s a significant drop off after him, I suspect he’ll come off the board pretty early tonight.
