Hey everyone. With it being Friday and having finished studying all five of the Commanders draft picks, I thought I’d wrap up the draft analysis with a single post linking to all of my pieces on the Commanders draft picks. Rookie mini camp starts today! So if you’re new here and want to get an idea of the Commanders rookie class as they take the field for practice for the first time, or if you just happened missed any of the posts I’ve done on the Commanders draft class, here’s a single post with links to everything I’ve done on each player.
Josh Conerly Jr.
Conerly was actually the final draft profile I wrote before the draft. I did a full breakdown of his game then, which you can read by clicking here, and see my thoughts on him from before the Commanders selected him, and perhaps compare to see if my opinion changed once he was announced as the selection.
After the draft, I went on the Big Doug & Carmi show to do an hour long film session breaking down the pick. The link to that post is here, but I’ll also just post the video below here too.
Trey Amos
Amos was another that I profiled prior to the draft when I spent a week studying some of the cornerbacks being linked to the Commanders. Click here for the link to that pre-draft profile of Amos.
I also wrote a more detailed breakdown of Amos after the draft after studying a few more of his games from last season to get an even better idea of him as a player. Here’s the link to that breakdown.
On top of that, I jumped on the Big Doug & Carmi show to do another hour long film session breaking down Amos and how he fits with Washington. The full video will be linked below.
Jaylin Lane
Lane was not someone I studied prior to the draft, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching him after the Commanders selected him. Here’s the link to my full breakdown on Lane.
Just yesterday, I did another hour long film session with George Carmi breaking down Lane and his fit with the Commanders. The video for that will be linked below.
Kain Medrano
I broke down a very intriguing prospect in sixth round linebacker Kain Medrano last week. Here is the link to that post.
I haven’t done a film session yet on Medrano, but we are planning on doing one in the future.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
The final draft pick for the Commanders was running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt. I had a post breaking down his game earlier this week. Here’s the link to that.
That about does it for the draft this year, which feels odd, but that is what happens when the Commanders only have five picks and don’t trade back to add more. But as a bonus, I will link to a few more breakdowns in case you missed them. The Commanders used draft picks in trades for left tackle Laramy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel. I loved the Tunsil trade and broke down his game in detail here. Before the Deebo trade went down, I posed the question “Should the Commanders trade for Deebo Samuel?”, breaking down the idea of the trade before it happened. After they officially made the move, I did another film session piece, with the link to the video below.
So that is all the breakdowns on the Commanders draft picks and players they traded for using draft picks. But as draft season winds down, I’ve still got plenty of breakdowns coming your way over the next few weeks and months. Things like. How the Commanders can manufacture a pass rush without an elite defensive end and why John Bates was paid so much money as a blocking tight end. I’ve got a lot of ideas lined up, but I’m always open to suggestions too. So feel free to get in the comments section or message me some other way to let me know what you’d like to see broken down this offseason!
Also, I’m sorry to have to break the news that your draft breakdown post has triggered a bunch of questions & comments in me (SURPRISE!!), both for the Commanders as well as the NFL in general. I hope you’ll tolerate me carpet bombing yalz with a few comments that have been on my tiny mind. If any trigger a response from anyone here, cool! If not, they can just hang out there in the ether!😁
Mark, kind of an unrelated question, but what are your thoughts on Washington potentially kicking the tires on Jadeveon Clowney? PFF seemed to grade him as still being productive last season and he might fit in as a temporary stopgap solution along the defensive line. Thanks!
