Breaking down Washington’s safety trio
Taking a closer look at how Bobby McCain, Landon Collins and Kam Curl performed against the Falcons
Washington’s secondary was expected to be a strength of the team heading into the season. Obviously through four games, Washington’s entire defense has been poor and the secondary certainly isn’t exempt from that. The cornerbacks have struggled, but for this post I wanted to focus on the trio of safeties, Bobby McCain, Kam Curl and Landon Collins, because I feel they started to find some more defined roles against the Falcons.
It’s been common to see fans being critical of Washington’s safeties and they have deserved some criticism. In general though, I thought all three played pretty well against the Falcons. Now both McCain and Collins had big mistakes on plays that led to touchdowns for the Falcons, which obviously can’t happen and merits criticism, but their overall performances weren’t as bad as those mistakes made it seem.
