Taking a closer look at why Washington’s talented defensive line isn’t performing as expected
This is my third post breaking down issues with Washington’s defense after the heavy loss to the Bills on Sunday. The first one looked at fundamental issues such as communication and getting everyone on the same page, while the second piece examined some potential issues with defensive play-calling. This piece will focus on the headline act of Washington’s defense: the defensive line.
The talent on Washington’s defensive line is well documented, but the four first-round picks haven’t been able to generate enough consistent pressure on the quarterback. Each individual player is having good moments, but they aren’t weaving it all together. A prime example of this was on the Bills’ third and 15 conversion on the opening drive.
