Breaking down Taylor Heinicke’s performance against the Bills
Taking a closer look at the interceptions and missed opportunities from Heinicke’s performance on Sunday
The focus of this week has rightly been on Washington’s underperforming defense, but the offense also struggled against the Bills. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke completed 14 of 24 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions to go along with it. Those 212 yards are slightly misleading too, because 73 of them came on a screen pass to Antonio Gibson where Gibson caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage.
From watching the All-22, I felt it was a poor performance from Heinicke. He did a nice job at working through his progressions and moving within the pocket, but he took some bad risks with the interceptions, could have been intercepted on a few more occasions and missed some opportunities to attack down the field too.
Let’s start with those interceptions and risky throws. His first interception came at the start of the second quarter.
